C is for cookie

I have been baking up a storm and I am on the quest to find the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever written. Over the past month I have tried Cook’s Illustrated, The New York Times, Ina Garten, and I have even made a vegan and a gluten free chocolate chip cookie. They have all been delicious and I would make any of them again. Some are quicker recipes and some call for overnight or hours of refrigeration. It amazes me that there are so many variations on a classic cookie recipe. One recipe I received many moons ago via a chain email but have never made was the legendary Neiman Marcus cookie recipe. You know the one that cost the customer $250! For the full NM cookie story check out my highlight reel on Instagram called “The $250 Cookie” or watch this delightful YouTube video from NYT to get the background on the story and the recipe.

At any rate, I decided to make this recipe next in the name of research. This one also had its own unique characteristics to set it apart. It calls for shaved chocolate and oats in addition to chocolate chips. I love how every cookie is different! That’s what makes being an unofficial expert cookie taster so fun.

Now the moment you have all been waiting for. The cookie is good. Not great. Certainly not life changing but I would I make it again. I am glad I didn’t get charged $250 for the recipe but it is such a fun story to share and pass along regardless if it is true or indeed an urban myth. Neiman Marcus has graciously added the recipe to their website, so you don’t have to wait for a chain email to come your way to get your hands on a copy of the recipe. However, it is a little different than the one I got years ago in an email and from the one NYT posted in the YouTube video I tagged. I guess that means I need to make this one too!

Please let me know in my comments below or on my latest Instagram post if you have a favorite chocolate chip cookie that I should make.
