Being Creative

I really don’t have a creative bone in my body (in fact, for my art credit in high school, I took calligraphy and let’s just say it turned out less than stellar), but I have always loved fashion and taking photos and am always inspired to find other creative outlets.

Headed into 2020, I have a few ideas of some creative outlets I want to try. One of which was painting pottery with my mom. Sure, we love your typical girls’ days of wine and shopping when we get together, but painting pottery could be a great way to spend time together, do something that challenges us, and help us to get outside of our creative comfort zones. Turns out that we had the most fun painting our pieces and are more than happy with how they turned out!

We went to Paint This in Old Town Alexandria. The girls in the shop were super helpful with us novices. They talked us through each step in the process and encouraged us along the way.

Looking back, it was super easy, and I can’t wait to go back and do another piece.  It is great to look at our mice and think of each other and our fun day together!

It really is this simple:

1.     Select the piece you want to paint.  We chose to start small with these cute little mice but there are countless pieces to paint.  Believe me, these are the only mice we will allow in our homes!

2.     Select your colors and tools.

3. Time to Paint!

4.     Voila. Submit your finished work to the staff and they send it off the kiln and you can pick it up in 7-10 days.

Such a great ideas to do with kids, girlfriends, significant others, or a work team building
